2022 UIL Area and State results

In 2022, UIL held its State Marching Band Contest for 4A and 6A but not for 5A or 3A, so Area was the last UIL round for bands in those conferences. Five bands playing my music marched at the UIL State Marching Band Contest, and Davenport and Waxahachie made finals. At Area, 20 bands playing my music made finals and five won their Area outright, including Magnolia, Aledo and Hendrickson in 5A.

The people behind these results

These placements belong to the students, directors and staff who earned them over a long season of rehearsals. I’m proud my music got to be part of their year. And to the directors: thank you for trusting me with your shows and for making me part of your teams.

If you want a season like these, start by listening to the shows. More than half of these bands began with a show from my library, adapted to their instrumentation and players. You can see every result since 2022 on my contest results page, read the 2023 season in review, or tell me about your band and we’ll talk about your next show.

FAQ

Which Bands of America regionals did Evan VanDoren shows win in 2022? Cedar Park won the Waco Regional with Mirror Mirror (91.500), and Wakeland won the North Texas Regional with Spices, Perfumes, & Toxins (88.700). Both also won Class AAA.

Why are there no UIL 5A State results for 2022? In 2022, UIL held its State Marching Band Contest for 2A, 4A and 6A only. For 5A and 3A bands, Area was the last round, and Magnolia, Aledo and Hendrickson (5A) and Hondo (3A) won theirs.

Can an adapted library show win a state or regional title? Yes. In 2022, Millard West won the Nebraska state grand championship with Sands of Time, Valencia won SCSBOA Division 2A, and Magnolia, Hondo and West Plains won their UIL Areas, all with shows from my library. See how adapted shows work.
