Marching band video clinics: my feedback on your rehearsal or run.
Send me a video of your band. I'll record my feedback over your footage, so you see your band and hear what I'm hearing at each moment. You tell me what to focus on: the music, the visual, the show design or how you're running rehearsal.
For high school marching band directors.

A band director's ears on your band.
I'm Evan VanDoren. I was a band director at Cedar Park High School in Texas for nine years, where we won three UIL State Marching Championships and made two Bands of America Grand National Finals.
Today I work alongside the brass faculty at the Santa Clara Vanguard as their brass arranger, and I've presented clinics for Drum Corps International, NAfME, the Texas Bandmasters Association, TMEA and Music for All. I also write marching band shows for bands across the country, so I'm listening for the music, the visual and the design together.
From directors I've worked with
“Evan has not only helped our organization as a whole, but he has also helped me grow tremendously as a young educator… Every week Evan gave us guidance on what processes/exercises/solutions would benefit us the greatest.”
“Evan’s impact is far reaching in our program both in terms of rehearsal procedure and overall show quality.”
“Evan is a true master teacher… I count myself as lucky to have worked with him for a year at Cedar Park High School.”

I had the pleasure to chat with John Denis, Assistant Professor of Music Education at Texas State University. He has a real passion for helping young teachers be successful, and as such, not only does he mentor some of the brightest young students entering the teaching profession, but has taken to the podcasting community to reach a wider audience!
“Program Notes: The Beginning Band Director Podcast” isn’t just for directors of the beginning band (6th Grade), nor is it for purely new to the profession teachers. His podcast site is chock-full of awesome information and thoughtful interviews on a variety of subjects that might be the very thing you need to climb over whatever teaching “wall” is currently in front of you!
In Part 1 of this multi-part podcast, we cover a few topics, including the basics of how to learn drill, and creating an environment where your students are willing to take risks for the sake of their own improvement, among other side-topics and “rabbit trails”. I had a great time chatting with John, and I hope you’ll have a good time listening in!
